Our Choral Anthems and Solos for Easter and Spring

Two of our songs which are available as both Choral Anthems and Vocal Solos are “I Can’t Explain” and “Into His Hands”.

“I Can’t Explain”

“I Can’t Explain” is a worship ballad with a reflective message about the wonder of God’s great love, demonstrated in the life, death, and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  Written by Worship Pastor and composer Travis L. Boyd, this song is available as an SATB Choral Anthem, as heard in this demo, and as a Vocal Solo, in 3 keys for Low, Medium, and High Voice.

The SATB Choral Anthem can be performed with live instruments or with the Anthem Trax heard here, a separate Mp3 download.  It could also be sung on Palm Sunday or one of the other Sundays leading up to Easter.

The Vocal Solo versions of “I Can’t Explain” (Low, Medium, and High Voice) each have an Accompaniment Track, which is an Mp3 download, with a PDF lead sheet.  In addition Solo Sheet Music is available in each of the 3 keys.

“Into Your Hands”

“Into Your Hands” is a moving power ballad with choral accompaniment.  This song is a musical prayer of total surrender to the Lordship of Christ.

There is also an SATB anthem with Solo throughout.

For Christmas! SATB Choral Anthem or Vocal Solo, “A Christmas Hymn”

A  BRAND  NEW  SONG  FOR  CHRISTMAS!

Stained glass nativity“A Christmas Hymn” (subtitled “Christ is Born Today”) is a lovely ballad with meaningful lyrics and a memorable melody, written by Worship Pastor and Composer Travis L. Boyd. The message is a proclamation of Christ’s birth, sharing all He is as the “crowning jewel of God’s great plan”.

“For unto us a Child is born; unto us a Son is given…” ~ Isaiah 9:6a

We decided to make a music video for this song as a way to introduce it and to share the good news of Christ’s birth this Christmas season. The audio for Travis’ demo of the Vocal Solo version has been combined with images of stained glass depictions of the nativity story.  He is singing with the Accompaniment track that he created for the song. Feel free to share this video in order to spread the good news.

Click on the photo above to go to our Worship Sounds Music website.

*   “A Christmas Hymn” is available as an SATB Choral Anthem, in your choice of Full Page or Octavo format.

It is also available as a Vocal Solo for male or female Soloist.

*  The Accompaniment Track, as heard in this music video, works for either the Choral or Solo version of the Song. It comes as an Mp3 download and also comes with a lead sheet PDF to assist you in learning the melody and lyrics.

“A Christmas Hymn” is available as an SATB Choral and as a Vocal Solo.

There is also a partial orchestration (strings and wood-winds, as heard in the Accompaniment Track on the video demo below). The Orchestration would work for wither the SATB Choral or the Vocal Solo version of the song, which would be especially beautiful with the live instruments.

Below, you will find the music video for “A Christmas Hymn.”

May God bless you and yours this Christmas season,
Travis and Cindy Boyd
Worship Sounds Music

“A Christmas Hymn” is dedicated first to the Lord and then in honor of one of our six sons.   All six of our boys and our daughter are wonderful blessings with loads of potential and promise.  For Logan, Autism makes some of the typical developmental tasks and milestones more challenging.  He is a joy, and he knows how to focus on what really matters.  Logan is tuned in to those he loves and to music and fun.  He works so hard to keep learning.  We are thankful for all of our blessings, and Logan reminds us that showing kindness and love are the most important things we will do in this life.

“A Christmas Hymn”
(subtitle:  Christ is Born Today, SATB)

Written by Worship Pastor and Composer Travis L. Boyd, “A Christmas Hymn” is subtitled “Christ is Born Today”.   The message is a proclamation of Christ’s birth, sharing all He came to be as the “crowning jewel of God’s great plan”.

The Accompaniment Track, as heard in this music video, works for either the Choral or Solo version of the Song.  “A Christmas Hymn” is available as an SATB Choral and as a Vocal Solo.  The mp3 Accompaniment Track also comes with a lead sheet.

“O, Come, O Come, Emmanuel”

MEDIUM DIFFICULTY SATB

A fresh, new arrangement of the well-loved Christmas carol, this anthem features a rhythmic verse section with a new melody in a minor key. The longing for the coming Messiah comes through clearly as the familiar words are heard in their new melodic setting. The traditional refrain is woven into this arrangement, with a special treatment for one of the verses. This anthem is suitable for Adult or Youth Choirs. It would be an excellent anthem for Advent or your Christmas program.

PLEASE VIEW THIS VIDEO DEMO IN FULLSCREEN MODE TO SEE LYRICS BEST.

“The Praises of the King”

MEDIUM DIFFICULTY SATB

This anthem is a rhythm, energetic song of praise that will have your choir and congregation rejoicing! It would work well as an opening song or closer for your Christmas program or a wonderful anthem to use during the advent season. Both the introduction and the ending for this anthem feature some of the melody from “For Unto Us a Child is Born”. Some creative options for this anthem include using it as a combined Adult and Student Choir anthem. The 2-Part verses could be sung by the Youth Choir, leading into the full SATB sections where the Adult Choir would join. In addition, the verses could be sung as a male/female duet, with the same duet on both verses or a different pair of singers for each verse. “The Praises of the King” is suitable for Adult or Youth Choirs.

“Glory to the Newborn King”

MODERATELY  DIFFICULT SATB

This anthem is a bluesy, rockin’ celebration of Christ’s birth. Your choir will find this one easy to learn and fun to sing, and the joyful message will resonate with your congregation.

“Christmas Joy”

MODERATELY DIFFICULT SATB

This 6/8 anthem is perfect for the Christmas Season. It could be sung by Youth or Adult Choirs or in a combined choir presentation. It’s length and the upbeat style and message make this anthem appropriate for any worship service or Advent program.

“God Reached Down”

MODERATELY DIFFICULT SATB

This anthem is a meaningful and lyrical testimony of God’s love for us as “reached down, and sent His Son”. It features an optional flute descant. Your choir and congregation will be touched by this message about the incredible gift given to us through the birth of Christ.

“Magnify”

—<*>—<*>—<*>—<*>—<*>—

“Magnify” and “The Praises of the King”

are also available as Vocal Solos.

Introducing “A Prayer for the Saints,” a new Worship Anthem & Congregational Praise Hymn

“But I trust in You. O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” Psalm 31:14

At WorshipSounds Music,
we are introducing the powerful new SATB Anthem and Modern Hymn,  called  “A Prayer for the Saints” !

This incredible message has been brilliantly arranged for your choir.  You’ll love the recurring motif in the piano accompaniment and marvel at the smooth harmonic transition in the second modulation.  Even more importantly, the lyric content is a profound prayer, expressing the heart cry of every Christian who longs to grow closer to God and to become more like Jesus.
The melody is beautiful and singable, making this modern hymn very appropriate for congregational worship.  As a result, “A Prayer for the Saints”  is currently available in two formats on our Boydbrain Music website:

**  The powerful SATB Anthem PDF is available for $15.00, with permission to make an unlimited number of copies (for your choir and accompanists only).

**  A Worship Pak for  “A Prayer for the Saints”  is available for $10.00.  It includes a lead sheet for rhythm section, a reproducible hymn sheet (bulletin or hymnal size), and a Vocal/Piano score.

Subtitled  “Your Saving Grace,”  “A Prayer for the Saints”  is in the current repertoire of  The Sons of Jubal, a large mens’ choral group sponsored by the Georgia Baptist Convention and consisting primarily of Ministers of Music and Worship (and others who faithfully participate in local church worship ministry) from all over the state of Georgia.  The Sons of Jubal Director, Dr. Jon K. Duncan, chose  “A Prayer for the Saints”  as the theme for the group’s annual Rehearsal & Renewal Retreat in early January, 2012.  The men in this amazing choral group will be sharing this anthem in monthly concerts throughout the year, and the piece will be included in the concert repertoire for a trip to Korea (not South!) in a April.  The Sons of Jubal have been invited as a featured group at a large choral festival.  Prayers for this endeavor are greatly appreciated!

Ministers of Music and Worship from all over the state of Georgia, who have heard  “A Prayer for the Saints”  as a result of their involvement in The Sons of Jubal, have ordered this powerful prayer anthem for their choirs.  At our home church, Travis introduced it first as a Vocal Solo.   Our wonderful Adult Choir has also sung the SATB anthem version of   “A Prayer for the Saints,”  and our congregation has shared in this message as a worship hymn.  In the local church environment, many of our members have commented on the lyrics of this Kingdom message.  Our prayer is that this piece could have an impact all over the world, expressing the deepest longings of God’s people everywhere.

Your Choir could begin learning  “A Prayer for the Saints”  at your next rehearsal.  Or, if you do not have a choral group at your church, you can introduce this modern prayer hymn as a Vocal Solo and then use it for congregational worship.  Our Worship Pak contains everything that you will need (reproducible hymnal or bulletin size song sheet, reproducible lead sheet, and Vocal/Piano Score).

To see and hear the music, you can view the Video Demo for  “A Prayer for the Saints”, go to our WorshipSounds Music website.  You’ll find  “A Prayer for the Saints”  on our “Adult Choir”  music page.  Here’s the link to the website:  http://www.worshipsounds.com

ALTERNATE VOICING AVAILABLE!  The TTBB arrangement, as sung by The Sons of Jubal, under the direction of Dr. Jon Duncan, and The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, under the direction of Dr. Randy Lind, is also on our website.

A Full Orchestration is also  available for this anthem!

Song Story for: “I Am Here”

This is what the Regency Park Baptist Church worship center looked like before the tornado.

On May 3, 1999, an F5 tornado roared through Central Oklahoma, devastating parts of the communites of Moore, Del City, Midwest City, and SW Oklahoma City.  In the path of this tornado was a church that is close to our hearts, Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore, where Travis served from 1989 until 1993.   The tornado destroyed 5 of the 6 buildings of Regency Park, as well as schools, homes, apartment buildings, and other structures.  Over 40 people were killed on that day as a tornado outbreak swept across parts of the state.  More than 3 dozen of Regency Park’s families lost their homes.  Our hearts were hurting along with our friends and brothers and sisters in Christ, though we no longer lived in Moore.  We kept in touch with the prayer needs of the people, and Travis was inspired to write a song of comfort and encouragement.  That song was, “I Am Here.”  It’s a message about the nearness of God’s presence even in times of uncertainty and calamity.   “I Am Here” is still a special song to the people of Regency Park.  Travis was asked to direct the Reunion Choir in singing it at the 50th Anniversary Celebration Worship service in July of 2011.

Many other churches and individuals have also been touched by this message of God’s abiding presence.  The Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma sang “I Am Here” as part of their repertoire in several concerts during the months of recovery efforts for the people whose lives had been torn asunder.   Regency Park was able to meet offsite temporarily as they renovated and restored their one remaining building, which had been heavily damaged by the tornado.  Eventually, they were able to purchase adjoining land and build a new Worship center, fellowship space, offices, and additional classroom space.  The photograph of the remains of Regency Park’s former worship center was taken not long after the tornado, before the building had to be razed.  This church continues to serve their community and be a light for Christ in this world, in spite of all of the challenges they have overcome.  God was with them through it all, and his message to the people of Regency Park through their darkest hour still resonates for all who know the Lord:     “Be encouraged!  I Am here!”

In this aerial view of some of the devastation in the community of Moore, the buildings of Regency Park Baptist Church are the red brick buildings on the far left, shown under the white water tower.  5 of the 6 buildings were no longer structurally sound and were razed.   The two story educational building at the farthest left side of the photo is the only remaining building still standing today.  The other red brick church building shown near the taller water tower is the First Baptist Church of Moore, which also sustained damage.  Since their damage was not as severe, this church was able to salvage all of their buildings and was able to shelter the homeless and care for tornado victims in other ways, with help from volunteers from churches all over the Oklahoma City metro area.

NOTE:  There were schools that were destroyed in the 1999 tornado, just as there have been in the 2013 storm.  In 1999, it was later in the day when the tornado hit; so school children were no longer in those buildings.  In fact, in the above photo, you should have been able to see a school that was across the street from Regency Park.  (Regency is on the west side of Janeway Avenue, and the school was on the east side.)  However, that school was blown away.  In addition, there was a Moore Public Schools resource center right next to Regency Park, on the same side of Janeway.  That building was also blown away and was not re-built.  Regency Park Baptist purchased the adjacent land where the resource building had been from the school district, and their new buildings are on the purchased lot (a large parcel of city block size).

2013 UPDATE:  Regency Park Baptist Church did not lose any of its buildings in the May, 2013, tornado.  So far, from their church facebook page, they are reporting that 3 member families lost their homes in the 2013 storm, and 5 had major damage.  I’m sure that there is some minor damage such as lost shingles or broken windows in many more homes, and they are all coping with having no water or electricity as well as debris everywhere (in the immediate aftermath).   One family also lost family members.  Their graand-daughter and young great grandson were among the lives lost.  Regency Park members are already involved in helping and are looking for additional ways to help as neighborhoods are opened up for clean-up.  Local and state churches and agencies are hard at work, and help is coming in from everywhere.  Please continue to pray for the people in this devastated area and for all of those who are helping them to recover.

Blessings through choosing to praise God

**THE  JUBALHEIRS**

It’s easy to rejoice in the Lord when all is well, but the choice to praise Him in times of adversity comes with maturity in our faith.   As we trust the Lord more and more in our walk with Him, we learn to lean upon His promises when we go through times of darkness.  In times of trial and grief, He promises to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the heaviness of sorrow.  (Isaiah 61:3)  The promises of God in this verse also apply to the fruit that our choice to praise Him in trials will bring.  The same scripture verse tells us that the fulfillment of these precious promises will be “that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”   No one who leads worship can escape a deep awareness that there are always people in any service of worship who have come with heavy hearts.  The most comforting truth that we can cling to in such times is that God knows all about our pain and our sorrow.  He is right there with us in the midst of the storm, even when we are not aware of His presence.   As we learn to trust His heart, His love for us, and His nearness, we can make the choice to praise God and allow Him to work on healing our hearts.

Cindy and I are still in the process of getting to know our sisters in the Lord who are members of the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Jubalheirs, directed by Dr. Jon Duncan.  Several of these talented ladies are members of our home church whom we know quite well, but we are so new to Georgia that we are still becoming acquainted with the wider membership of the Jubalheirs and their Ministers of Worship and home churches.  However, it’s been evident to us, even in a relatively short time period, that the Jubalheirs are women who love to praise the Lord.  Their radiant faces and beautiful voices testify of their love for God and longing to be more like Christ.  Many of the songs in their repertoire have very profound messages of deep faith, so it was an honor when Dr. Duncan selected my anthem, “Much More Than a Song”  for the Jubalheirs’ repertoire not long before our move to Georgia.  “Much More Than a Song”  is a reflective ballad with a message about choosing to praise God in times of trial.  The Jubalheirs have also recorded this song on their CD entitled “New Every Morning.”   When Cindy and I came to Georgia to meet with the Music and Worship Search Committee in 2008, I’d been asked to sing for them.  We sang some worship songs together, and then I sang a solo, choosing “Much More Than a Song.”  I didn’t know that 3 of the women on the search committee were members of the Jubalheirs and had already sung this song until after I finished singing.  It was a fairly new song at the time and was only in it’s second year of inclusion in the repertoire of The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma.  It never occurred to me that some of the committee members would have not only heard the song but also had sung it in concert.  It’s amazing how God puts things togethers sometimes, and that will always be a special memory for me.   We look forward to many other special times of worship in our home church and around the state of Georgia with our sisters in Christ in the Jubalheirs and our brothers in the Sons of Jubal.

This year, the Jubalheirs are singing one of my newest choral anthems, “Greater.”   They recorded it in September, 2011, for their newest CD project, which has not yet been releasesd.   “Greater”  is also a song about praising God in every circustance.  In the lyrics of  “Greater,” the listener is reminded that our God is greater than any challenge we may face.   And, just like my good friend David Neely (and his wife, Phyllis), who is mentioned on the title page of “Greater,”  I am confident that the women of the Jubalheirs will trust in our great God no matter what life brings.   “Greater” was written for the glory of God and to encourage my friend and all of God’s people.  What a blessing it is to know that the women of the Jubalheirs will share this message with passion and with integrity, choosing to praise the Lord in all of life.

“His name is higher!
His love is deeper!
He reigns forever and ever more!
Alpha, Omega, Master, and Savior…
Far above anything, of His praises we’ll sing
And at His feet we’ll fall.
For our God, yes, our God is greater than all!”

Blessings through God’s Presence

This photo is of The Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma in concert at Regency Park Baptist Church in Moore, Oklaoma, with Dr. Bill Green directing.

**THE  SINGING  CHURCHWOMEN  OF  OKLAHOMA**

The Singing Churchwomen of Oklahoma are a group near and dear to my heart.  Not only was my wife, Cindy,  a member of this group for over 14 years, but we also know so many of the women personally.   When Cindy joined the group, we were living in Western Oklahoma; so she was part of the Singing Churchwomen West (the group is so large that they only combine the East & West groups once of twice a year.  In most months, each group gives a concert on their side of the state of Oklahoma).  A few years later, I was called to a church on the East side of the state, so Cindy was then a part of the Singing Churchwomen East for several years and eventually served as their President-Elect and then President.   In addition to these connections, some of the women are the wives of Ministers of Worship; and their husbands are in The Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma, a group which I was a member of for 18 years.   I’ve met some of the wives of my brothers when they would come to our concerts or even come along as travelling companions on our mission trips.   There were also women in the group who had been part of my church choirs from all 4 of the churches that I had served in full-time ministry in Oklahoma.  The Singing Churchwomen are a very special group of women who love the Lord and each other and love to sing praises to the Lord.  I have heard some amazing, angelic sounds from this group.

It has been my joy to arrange and compose music for The Singing Churchwomen, and to hear them sing some of my music in concert and in the recordings that they have made.  In addition to pieces that I was asked to arrange or re-voice for the group, they have also sung (and sometimes recorded) many of my original choral pieces in SSAA arrangements, including “You Are a Spring,”  “Let the Trumpet Sound,”  “He Took Up a Cross,”  “One Like Me,”  and “God is Faithful.”   I’d have to say my favorite song to hear them sing was my choral anthem entitled, “I Am Here.”   This anthem is a message of hope and encouragement and a reminder that God is right here with us even when the circumstances of life are very difficult.   Knowing so many of these women and the challenges and trials they have overcome and endured, it was like listening to the beautiful combined voices of so many sisters in Christ, sharing their personal testimony of God’s nearness in their time of need.   This particular photo is very meaningful to me because I served at Regency Park Baptist Church, where this concert took place, from 1989 until 1993.   We still have a lot of friends from this church and attended their 50th Anniversary Celebration in July of 2011.  It was this church for which I wrote “I Am Here”  after their buildings and over 40 members’ homes were destroyed in the May, 1999 F5 tornado that hit Moore and Southwest Oklahoma City.   The nearness of God’s presence is so necessary and comforting when our lives have been turned upside down; and there is no more meaningful picture of this fact for me than to see this photo of the group that so beautifully sang the message of  “I Am Here”….  in concert in the new worship center built by Regency Park.

And, He was there…just as He is here now.

Sometimes, we need a reminder of the nearness of our God.  Whether we are just feeling alone or are in a time of trial, the assurance of God’s presence is a healing gift to our spirits.  This assurance often comes directly from His spirit within us.  Sometimes it comes through reading scripture or through a sermon or testimony.  And sometime, it comes in a song.  Be encouraged.  He is here!

Some of the lyrics from “I Am Here”:

Be encouraged!  I am here….
Bring comfort for each tear,
Giving hope when all seems lost
In the power of the cross.

When the walls around you crumble,
And your heart is filled with fear,
Rest assured that I’ll be with you!
I Am here.”

Choir Appreciation Sunday

Did you know that January 8th, 2012, was designated as the first National Choir Appreciation Sunday?   This was news to us, but we think it’s great!  Our Adult Choir members at every church where Travis has served have always been incredibly faithful and committed to the ministry of choral praise and to their leadership role in worship.   They’ve been people with servant’s hearts, always involved in a multitude of ministries within the church body in addition to their music ministry involvement.  The people that we have known, loved, and worked with as a part of ALL of the music ministry groups (choirs, orchestras, rhythm sections, tech teams, handbell groups, drama and movement teams, set design & construction helpers, costuming helpers, banner ministry) have never sought accolades or recognition.  They are just people who love the Lord and want to give him glory by sharing their gifts of singing and/or playing or technical expertise.   Our wonderful Adult Choir and Orchestra at First Baptist Church of Duluth, Georgia, love to share their gifts through praise.   Here, they are shown sharing Joseph M. Martin’s beautiful Christmas musical, “Winter’s Grace,” in 2010.

It takes more than a talent to participate faithfully in these ministries!  It takes someone who not only has the ability but also has the love or passion for this area of ministry and is willing to guard their availability in order to be a faithful participant.  These wonderful folks add so much life and spirit to all that they do, in addition to their excellence in prepartion for sharing their gifts.   Whether your church has a special recognitions Sunday set aside or not, it’s ALWAYS good to let these people know how much you appreciate them!  So, share a little love with the people who bless your life this week!   Then, let your music/tech/drama/decorating committee & special production support (costumes, sets, publicity) people know that you appreciate their efforts when you attend the Christmas production and special programs this year.   Tell your child’s Sunday School or Choir or Missions teacher (as well as your own!) how much you appreciate them.  Spread the love!  Tell folks you’re glad to see them!   Let’s appreciate the gift of salvation in Christ every moment of every day and appreciate the people who are committed to making our church the best that it can be every time we have the opportunity!  A special day is great, but appreciating these fine people one day of the year would be like only complimenting and saying ‘I love you’ to your spouse once a year…say, on Valentines Day.  Not a good idea, right?   You can help to continually encourage and build up the body of Christ, spurring one another on to good works!

First Baptist Church Duluth Adult Choir, Youth (SWAT) Choir & teams, Golden Notes, Handbell ringers, Orchestra, Praise Teams, Tech Team, Rhythm Section, group accompanists, Drama Team, Decorating Committee, and all who will help with production tasks, WE APPRECIATE YOU!   We think you are the best and love you all!   Each of you contributes so much!  You are valued, loved, appreciated, & treasured!   As you use your God-given gifts, you are a BLESSING!
